On November 3, Missourians will vote on Amendment 3, a proposed constitutional amendment that would ban abortion and limit reproductive health care access in Missouri.
Voting “Yes” on Amendment 3 would:
Ban abortion in Missouri in nearly all cases, even in emergency situations.
Overturn Missourians’ votes that passed the Reproductive Freedom Amendment in 2024.
Take healthcare decisions away from patients, families, and doctors, and put them in the hands of politicians and lawyers.
Open the door for doctors and patients to be criminalized and sent to jail for essential reproductive health care – even in potentially life-threatening situations like hemorrhaging, dangerously high blood pressure, or cancer.
Voting “No” on Amendment 3 would:
Stop the near-total abortion ban from being permanently added to the Missouri constitution
Maintain the amendment approved by Missourians in 2024, which protects access to safe and legal abortion care, prenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum care, birth control, miscarriage care, and respectful birthing conditions.
Ensure personal health care decisions in Missouri can be made by patients, families, and doctors, not politicians and lawyers.

The Kansas City Star reports that Amendment 3:
Is “a new attempt to ban nearly all abortions in the state.”
“will ultimately decide whether abortion can remain legal in Missouri.”
“would completely strike down the language of the 2024 abortion rights amendment”
Ban abortion except for “only a few rare instances.”
“also purports to ban gender-affirming care for minors, even though that health care is already illegal under state law.”
“faces sharp criticism for tying abortion rights to transgender health care … as an attempt to confuse voters into banning access to abortion.”
Kansas City network KCTV reports that:
“Missouri politicians…ban[ned] abortion within 20 minutes of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the limited federal abortion protections of Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.”
“Missouri became the first state to end an abortion ban by a vote of the people in 2024 and established the Right to Reproductive Freedom in the state constitution.”
“This year will mark the second time Missourians vote on abortion. In November, Missourians will once again vote on abortion on the new Amendment Three. A “yes” vote is to ban abortions.”

What is the current law on abortion in Missouri?
Missourians voted to end the abortion ban in 2024. Right now in Missouri abortion care is legal and Missourians can make their own decisions with their own families, doctors, and faith.
What is the current law on health care for transgender youth in Missouri?
Politicians banned trans health care for transgender youth in Missouri in 2023. That ban will remain in place no matter the outcome of the vote on this amendment in November, and politicians can extend that ban after this election no matter how we vote.
